Higher Bowden Holiday Cottages lie in a spectacular setting on a south facing hillside
in an area of outstanding natural beauty with views down to the sea. The peacefulness
of the surrounding landscape and views over the beautiful South Hams
countryside do however belie your closeness to all the essentials of everyday life.
The nearest pubs, restaurants, church, Post Offices,
grocery stores and newsagents are only 1.5
miles away in the local villages of Strete and Stoke Fleming.
The nearest town is Dartmouth (four miles), a wonderfully scenic place
boasting the Royal Naval College and other sites of historic interest.
There are churches of various denominations, a small hospital with a
casualty department, and many interesting shops. The number of quality
restaurants and other eateries in Dartmouth is quite remarkable. It also
boasts four supermarkets (including Sainsbury, Lidl, M & S Food) and enough delicatessens, greengrocers,
butchers, healthfood stores, market stalls, bakeries and take-aways to
provide all of your food requirements. Or you can travel a few miles
further to Totnes, another historic town now rich with 'alternative'
New Age culture, and stock up in the Morrisons supermarket there.
For those who really want to take it easy there are a
number of services provided direct to Higher
Bowden so that you can stay in and enjoy your cottage and the on-site
facilities. There are several pleasant strolls you can take along the
country lanes close to the complex. You may also wish to partake of the
one-mile walk or drive down the lovely Blackpool Valley to our nearest
beach at Blackpool Sands. This is a very popular and picturesque bay
with good family facilities including an alfresco café and take away,
shop, toilets with outside showers, sailing/windsurfing tuition and boat
hire, sand pits (the beach is fine shingle), and a freshwater paddling
and boating pond.
